Snapping Spring

The weather is warming, blossoms are blooming
and kiddos are smiling at being able to run free after winter's thaw.
I took my camera out 3 times this week to snap  springtime shots
of these sweet smiling faces and some new design work as well.
Makes me look forward to Spring Break this week and
Easter right around the bend.

I hit the design studio a few days ago. The fruits of my efforts are currently available in  my etsy shop . Spring Pop and Apron Rose are brand-new designs for Spring 2009 and all of the pieces are new patterns I've been working on.  So...what do you think?

 

The Scrappy Apron Skirt is my favorite. I want to make one for myself.
 Chloe says it's very comfy which is always a good thing!

I've been wanting to spread my photography wings a bit and am hoping for a successful foray into snapping kids at their happiest.

going BANANAS...or not

Actually, I'm feeling pretty organized today.
Definitely not always the case...not even mostly the case if I'm being honest
but today has been calm.
Wondering if I'm not going bananas because of my determination to give myself a break for a month. In the recent weeks (well, pretty much since Halloween) I've been running full speed ahead
and doing a lot to help people around me. 

A true blessing of course--
to serve others
because charity never faileth!
But every once in awhile, we have to pull on the reins of wisdom and reel ourselves in just a titch.
And...so I have.
Been spending a little more time on me & my house since Saturday and it feels nice
 (even got my hair done-woohoo!)

 Decided to go on an extra-service hiatus for a month starting Saturday (5 days ago). I’ve just been doing and doing and doing and giving and giving so much to friends and church assignments lately that I was starting to feel a little worn down and tired from all of it. I decided to give myself a whole month to say NO to anything extra I get asked to do.

Needing some time to refill the bucket as they say.
Not wanting to be selfish...just
need to be sure I don't go BANANAS!
I'm 5 days in and I feel really good.
My kitchen sink is even shiny.

So...the only thing going bananas at the moment is this fabulous pie

(I MADE FOR A FRIEND, of course)
Don't fret, I made the pie months ago. It was a birthday gift redeemed. I like to give the guy friends in my life "coupons" for a favorite pie or cake or other yummy dessert since they all seem to
want expensive gadgets which I simply can't afford.
But FOOD I can somehow work into the deal.
And they all seem to comply with a smile.
 My friend Ryan went for Banana Cream Pie and it was delish!
I did a shortbread crust.
One pie with dark chocolate and one with white--yum!
Now, this is my idea of going bananas!

Ironically enough, with all of the chatter about what people are giving up for Lent, I had to laugh when I told my friend today I was starting a month’s hiatus of extra service.
She said why not make it a full 40 days and give up charity for Lent.
 Too funny!
 Certainly not what God or church leaders would have in mind for what to sacrifice, I know
but her quick witted humor made me smile.
And 2 thank you notes came from friends in the mail today.
My bucket is starting to re-fill.
Bananas-free zone today and loving it!

Office Parties and Girls' Nights Out~WOOHOO!

Ohhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh...well what can I say? There are no words to do this justice...just sweet,
fun in your guts laughter--the kind that makes the world a pretty darn fun place to be:

I am so excited for tonight's return of The Office I can barely stand it. I know I'm not the only one.
What major faux pas will Michael pull?
What practical jokes will Pim (that's Hollywooooooood for Pam & Jim)be up to? Will Dwight kill any small animals and proudly say it was in defense of his great nation?
Will Andy sing a falsetto tune in IGPAY ATINLAY?

Ohhhhhh....as much as it pains me to do so, I'm opting for a little GNO with my homegirls when it's airing and then coming home to watch the new episode on DVR. Although I do love watching The Office with the kids, I really need an uninterrupted viewing for this one.

So, what does being at the office bring to your life? I'm really spoiled I have to admit. Here are some of the most fun things I got to do while "at the office" last year:

Traveling to Utah to the Boutique Cafe' Getaway weekend. I got to meet up with several designer friends; we had a fantastic time. Here's me with my LimeVine colleague Patty of Modkid and Amelia of Intimate Photography.

The year also brought the exciting opportunity to meet Mark Badgley and James Mischka. I was even lucky enough to be asked last minute to be a lead dresser and backstage asst manager for a runway show they did here in Cinti.

Their Fall '08 collection was stunning on the runway. What a blast looking at the collection and discussing it with the Mr.Badgley himself. This was a teeny taste of the kind of OFFICE I'm hoping to spend much of my career in.

Well, I'm off to my GNO. Look at my sweet friends--we get together every week. We have some good times that's for sure. I have to tease them sometimes for being such creatures of habit and insisting to meet at the same place, same table every week.

Being that I'm the creative type, I have to change things up a bit, goose people, rearrange the furniture, you know what I mean?! Anyway, I went out on a limb and broke the mold a few weeks ago. I texted them all, telling them GNO was changed for that night;I was cooking Italian and they'd better come hungry.  We had meatball lasagna with homemade marinara and a huge caeser salad. Everyone was blissfully fine with the change of plans btw.

Oh how I digress....

Anyhoo... are there any other OFFICE PARTIES planned for tonight? Pray tell-- because I'm dying to know who else is obsessed. Bradford's favorite Christmas gift was his Dwight bobblehead after all :)

As some of you may know, I love fabric! It's more than a love really... it's more like a sickening love affair, fascination, and obsession all rolled into one. A few months ago, I had the visual pleasure of having my eyes fall onto the fabric collections of Westminster Fibers newcomer Joel Dewberry. From the graphic designs to the color schemes to Joel's tagline eclectic modern~~I was instantly hooked.

Fast forward a few months to today... I am so proud to share that some of my designs have just been added to the FRESH IDEAS section of Joel's website. The timing of this sweet moment comes exactly one week before the launch of INDELIBLE, wherein I have helped to lead 51 e-bay designers gather in an amazing tribute to these fantastic new fabric collections. To celebrate such a fun moment for me with all of you, I've decided to do a drawing for a 2 piece
skirt and peasant top set up to size 6 made from any 3 Dewberry fabrics. Leave a comment to this post and you will be entered in the drawing. Thanks for being such supportive friends... now let's hear you chat :)
